Trail Cycle Leader

The Trail Cycle Leader (TCL) award consists of a two day training course followed by a one day assessment (for use in AALS defined non-licensable terrain formally AALA) All Cyclewise Training mountain bike courses run on a ratio of 1:4 with 2 instructors working on every course.

The Trail Cycle Leader Award is an ideal qualification for anyone who works in Outdoor Centres, Guiding Companies, Schools, Youth Groups etc or anyone who may be looking to do this in the future or just has an interest in mountaining biking, improving their skills and gaining a qualification that gives them all the information to go out, have fun and be safe.

Mountain Bike Leader

The Mountain Bike Leader Award (MBL) consists of two days training plus a one-day assessment (for use in AALS defined licensable terrain) All Cyclewise Training mountain bike courses run on a ratio of 1:4 with 2 instructors working on every course.

The Mountain Bike Leader Award is a senior award. It is a more challenging course that requires a higher technical skill level, coaching delivery and advanced leadership management.

Candidates must have obtained their TCL award before undertaking the MBL training.

Night Riding Module

The Night Riding Module is an additional module for qualified TCL and MBL leaders to enable them to work in conditions outside the 'daytime' only remit of their award. It will allow a TCL holder to work in 'night time' conditions but they must still operate under 600m in height and no more than 30 minutes from help. An MBL will be able to lead on more technically difficult and remote terrain.

Expedition Module

An expedition is defined as a trip of one or more nights where the group is entirely self-sufficient and the module can be undertaken by both TCL and MBL award leaders. Holders of the Expedition Module will be able to lead groups within the remit of their TCL or MBL. Once a TCL award holder has completed their MBL they will then be able to lead an expedition on terrain as defined by their MBL qualification.
